  • Ecology

Many of our clients are concerned about the environmental impact of adding impervious (hard) surfaces to their landscape.

At American Concrete, we are sensitive to this issue.

From how we plan your project, to the reuse of recycled materials, our process employs a number of ecologically friendly practices.

Ecology

Reducing Runoff

Many of our clients are concerned about the environmental impact of adding impervious (hard) surfaces to their landscape.

At American Concrete, we are sensitive to this issue. With every project, we pay close attention to the total amount of “hard space” being created, and can work within neighborhood or municipal conservation plan guidelines.

We also focus on grading, not only to keep water away from your home, but also to route it in an ecologically friendly manner.

For example, if you’re planning a rainwater garden or other green landscaping around a new patio or walkway, we can grade the hard surface to direct rainwater toward a garden, as opposed to down a driveway. This type of planning can reduce rainwater runoff to storm sewers and save on utility bills.

Integrating Recycling Practices

American Concrete also integrates a number of recycling practices into our work.

As common in our industry, we add fly ash to Portland cement, which reduces the amount of new raw material required for a project. Fly ash is a by-product of coal-fueled power plants, and is used in making a number of building materials, including concrete. Fly ash makes concrete stronger, more durable and easier to work with because its tiny, glassy beads create a lubricating effect that improves the flow of concrete and reduces the amount of water required.

Our other practices include recycling all demolished or unused concrete materials removed from your project site and using recycled concrete and asphalt as grading fill.

Planning for Longevity

Longevity is another important ecological concept. The more durable a landscape, the more sustainable it is.

American Concrete offers quality workmanship and top-notch materials that help ensure a long life for your project.
